Wavosaur is a free audio recording and editing software package for Windows based computers (MAC users should check out Audacity.) It is used for recording primarily in home and personal studios. It allows audio editing, processing, and recording to both wav and mp3 formats. This program has some advanced features for using real-time effects processing, multi-channel audio recording, and using VST Plugins. One of the best features of this program for audio engineers on the go is that it does not require an installation. This means you can copy the program to a USB key and edit your sessions on any windows computer. Wavosaur has many great features entry level engineers, however advanced engineers and producers will find it cannot keep up with programs such as Digidesign Pro Tools, Apple Logic of other professional recording programs. This being said its still a good free audio editing program with many features. Plus the recording interface is skinable which means you can download customized packages to change the look. Its main competitor would be Audacity which is also a free DAW recording package.
