Ultrasones S-Logic HFI 550 headphones are professional quality headphones ideal for recording music, monitoring live electronic drumming, djing, and in some cases mixing. Ultrasones S-Logic HFI 550 headphones have a very heavy duty feel and a nice bass rounded sound. They fold in on themselves for easy storage or travel, and come with a nice little bag to keep them in.
Ultrasones S-Logic HFI 550 in the Studio
Ultrasones S-Logic HFI 550 headphones really do have a very sturdy feel to them, I would say of most any headphones I have held I would be least worried about these. This may seem like small potatoes until you have had a hundred dollar pair of headphone come out of you studio bag broken straight in half hanging together only by the wires that bring sound between the earcups. As far as comfort they are pretty nice at first, but because they are nice and tight (which is a plus for isolation) they tend to make your earlobes a little sort after a night of wearing them. Truth is most do I have only found a few pair that are comfortable after an hour…this said you often don’t get much isolation from the comfortable pair. The headphone bridge on the Ultrasones S-Logic HFI 550′s has nice padded feel and this part didn’t bother me at all. The connector is an 8th inch gold plated jack and comes with a 1/4 inch gold plated adapted to use when necessary. This is nice as you don’t have to worry about quality degradation when using an adapter.
Sound wise the Ultrasones S-Logic HFI 550 headphones are awesome, they have an amazing bass response and are designed with S-logic virtual surround sound which really does widen the stereo field. For Djing these headphones would be great as they have a very wide frequency range from 15 to 22kHz which is far beyond the threshold of human hearing. They would also by great for recording as they sound so awesome that your mix will sound great to the musicians even in its early stages! This is a plus as many mixing headphones, are meant to sound flat and don’t sound as hot as the musician might like. As for mixing, these are a good second pair of headphones to you flat response mixing phones. You can use these to hear a nice rounded bassy version of your mix once you have gotten it to sound good in the mixing phones. This way you can hear the dull version and get it to sound as good as it can, then get excited listening to to it through the extra bump of the Ultrasones S-Logic HFI 550 headphones.
Ultrasones S-Logic HFI 550 headphones are great all around pair of headphones and will make whatever you are doing sound awesome. Just be careful because you must remember that it may not sound quite that awesome through other speaker or headphones. I would these as a great all around solution but for mixing make sure you have other options!
