Coincident Microphone Techniques


Over the years a number of coincident microphone techniques have been developed and used on countless recordings.

Microphone Technique

Coincident microphones are a pair of microphones (stereo) where each of the capsules are placed as close as possible to each other without touching. This technique decreases the amount of phase inconsistencies between the stereo pair. Coincident microphones are traditionally used for reproducing an accurate stereo image.
